Public Review Draft

The Swaziland Standards Authority (SWASA) through various Technical Committees has finalised the drafting of the draft standards listed below.  In line with the SWASA procedure for the development and adoption of national standards, these draft standards are available for review by the public. This stage, otherwise referred to as the Pubic Review Stage is open from the 10th October 2011 to the 10th  December 2011.

This document lays down design features and procedures to be followed to minimize risks to the safety of persons, property and the environment in cases where emergencies occur in warehouses used for the storage of dangerous goods. It applies to the warehousing of dangerous goods in excess of certain quantities.

PRD/ SZNS SANS 10263-2:2008

The warehousing of dangerous goods Part 2: The storage and handling of gas cylinders

This part of SANS 10263 specifies requirements for the safe handling and storage of industrial and medical gas cylinders for compressed, liquefied or dissolved gases that have a water capacity of 0,5 L  to 150 L throughout the supply chain, to and from end users. It also includes undercover and open air conditions. Sites where gas cylinders are filled are specifically excluded.

PRD/ SZNS SANS 10087-4:2011 The handling, storage, distribution and maintenance of LPG in domestic, industrial and commercial installation  

Part 4: The transportation of LP gas including the design construction, inspection, fittings, filling, maintenance and repair of LP gas bulk vehicles and rail tank cars

This part of the SANS 10087 gives requirements for the design, construction, inspection, fittings and the filling ratio of pressure vessels (mounted onto vehicles or rail wagons), including ISO containers and skid tanks, used in the transportation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the design of vehicles and ancillary equipment, and operating practice.

PRD/ SZNS SANS  10087-3:2008 The handling, storage, distribution and maintenance of LPG in domestic, industrial and commercial installation 

Part 3: Liquefied petroleum gas installations involving storage vessels of individual water capacity not exceeding 500 L

This part of SANS 10087 specifies requirements for the layout, design and installation of butane, propane and liquefied petroleum gas equipment, and of storage vessels of individual water capacity exceeding 500 L and associated vaporizers, pipework and fittings up to the outlet of the first pressure reduction stage in the line.

PRD/SZNS SANS 10089-2:2007

The petroleum industry  Part 2: Electrical and other installations in the distribution and marketing sector 

This part of SANS 10089 covers the recommended safe practices in the design, construction, installation and maintenance of electrical, earthing and bonding systems intended to be used in flammable and combustible liquid storage, pumping, distribution and marketing facilities. It is not intended that this standard should apply to refineries or exploration facilities, unless any of these installations are similar to facilities listed above.

PRD/SZNS SANS 10089-3:2010

The petroleum industry Part 3: The installation, modification and decommissioning of underground storage tanks, pumps/dispensers and pipework at service stations and consumer installations

This part of SANS 10089 covers provisions for the installation of underground storage tanks of individual capacity not exceeding 85 000 m3, pumps/dispensers and pipework at service stations and consumer installations.

PRD/SZNS SANS 10131:2004

Above-ground storage tanks for petroleum products

This standard contains recommendations for the above-ground storage and handling of petroleumproducts at consumer installations with a total storage capacity not exceeding 200 m3. This standard also covers the design, manufacture and construction of above-ground storage tanks not exceeding a capacity of 85 m3.

PRD/SZNS  SANS 10231:2010

Transport of dangerous goods – Operational requirements for road vehicles

This standard establishes rules and procedures for the safe operation and handling of all road vehicles that are used for the transport of dangerous goods in accordance with the load constraints. The procedures include requirements for the consignor, the consignee, the operator, the driver and the qualified person as well as en route procedures, and cargo handling.

PRD /SZNS 023:2011 School health services – general requirements

This national standard provides the basic requirements for the provision of school health services from pre-schools, primary, secondary, high schools, tertiary levels and neighbourhood care points (NCPs). It is intended for policy-makers, schools health programme planners and coordinators, service providers, non-governmental organizations supporting school health services, civil society groups, regulators and trainers.

PRD/ SZNS SANS 1475-1 2010 The production of reconditioned  fire fighting equipment.

Part 1- Portable and wheeled (mobile) rechargeable fire extinguishers

1.1 This part of SANS 1475 covers the administrative and technical details and controls applicable to the acceptable reconditioning of any portable and wheeled (mobile) rechargeable fire extinguisher.

1.2 It covers only those fire extinguishers that have been removed from service and have been presented for reconditioning.

PRD/ SZNS SANS 022: 2011 First aid: Occupational first aid

This standard gives the basic requirements for selection, provision, maintenance and use of occupational first aid equipment, facilities and services at a workplace.

Part 2: Management of healthcare risk waste for healthcare facilities and healthcare providers in rural and remote settings

This standard specifies provisions and requirements for the safe management of healthcare risk waste for healthcare facilities and healthcare providers operating in rural and remote settings.

PRD/SZNS SANS 10248-1:2010

Management of healthcare waste Part 1:

Management of healthcare risk waste from a healthcare facility.

This standard lays down minimum provisions for the safe and effective management of healthcare risk waste generated by healthcare facilities and other places where healthcare professionals work in order to reduce potential risks to humans and to the environment.

PRD/SZNS 025:2011 Poultry processing- hygiene requirements

This standard specifies requirements for controlling food safety hazards in poultry abattoirs.

PRD/SZNS SANS 10133:2010

The application of pesticides in food-handling, food-processing and catering establishments

This standard covers methods for the safe application of pesticides registered as suitable for use in food-handling, food-processing and catering establishments by registered pest control operators.

PRD/SZNS 015:2011 Wheat flour and maize meal fortification

This Swaziland National Standard gives specifications for the rational addition of essential micronutrients to wheat flour and maize meal.

PRD/SZNS ISO 8583-1:2003 Financial transaction card originated messages — Interchange message specifications —  Part 1: Messages, data elements and code values

This part of ISO 8583 specifies a common interface by which financial transaction card-originated messages can be interchanged between acquirers and card issuers. It specifies message structure, format and content, data elements and values for data elements. The method by which settlement takes place is not within the scope of this part of ISO 8583.

PRD/SZNS ISO 9564-1:2002 Banking — Personal Identification Number (PIN) management and security — Part 1: Basic principles and requirements for online PIN handling in ATM and POS systems.

This part of ISO 9564 specifies the basic principles and techniques which provide the minimum security measures required for effective international PIN management.  These measures  are  applicable  to  those  institutions responsible for implementing techniques for the management and protection of PINs.

PRD/SZNS ISO 10202-3:1998 Financial transaction cards — Security architecture of financial transaction systems using integrated circuit cards —Part 3: Cryptographic key relationships

This part of ISO 10202 specifies the minimum cryptographic key relationship requirements for security architectures of financial transaction systems using ICCs and, in addition, provides options from which the card issuer or application supplier can select those key relationships appropriate to their application.

PRD/SZNS ISO 10202-4:1991 Financial    transaction      cards    -    Security architecture      of  financial     transaction Systems    using   integrated      circuit    cards    - Part   4: Secure   application    modules

This   part   of ISO 10202   specifies    the   minimum     security   requirements      of  the   life   cycle   for   a  Secure   Application    Module    (SAM)   which    tan    be  added   to   a  Card Accepting     Device   (CAD).

This  part  of  ISO/IEC 10536 specifies the physical  characteristics  of  close-coupled  cards  (CICC).  It  applies  to identification cards of the card type ID-1 operating either in a slot or on the surface of a coupling device.

PRD/SANS 6211-1:2003 Domestic solar water heaters Part 1: Thermal performance using an outdoor test method

This  part  of  SANS  6211  describes  an  outdoor  test  method  for  the determination  of  the  thermal performance of domestic solar water heaters.

PRD/SANS 10106:2006 The installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of domestic solar water heating systems

This standard covers requirements for the safe installation of new and replacement domestic solar water heaters complete with all the relevant and applicable control units.

 PRD/SZNS SANS 151:2010  Fixed electric water storage

  This standard specifies the characteristics of thermostatically controlled fixed electric storage water heaters intended for indoor and outdoor domestic use and for operation on a.c. supplies at voltages not exceeding 250 V for single phase and 480 V for other appliances.

PRD/SZNS SANS 10142-2:2009   The wiring of premises   Part 2: Medium-voltage installations above 1 kV a.c. not exceeding 22 kV a.c. and up to and including 3 000 kW installed capacity.

  This  part  of  SANS  10142  covers  requirements  for  the  design,  erection  and  modification  of specific,  fixed,  medium-voltage  electrical  installations in  distribution  systems  between  the point  of control and the point of consumption, with nominal voltages above 1 kV a.c. not exceeding 22 kV a.c.  and  up  to  and  including  3  000  kW  installed  capacity,  so  as  to  provide  safe  and  proper functioning for the use intended. 

 PRD/SZNS SANS 1307:2009 Domestic solar water heaters

  This standard specifies the requirements of domestic solar water heating systems.  The standard is not applicable to solar water heaters for swimming pools or to industrial and commercial solar water heaters, or to push-through type domestic solar water heaters.

 PRD/SZNS ISO 26000:2010  Social Responsibility

  This International Standard provides guidance to all types of organizations, regardless of their size or location, on: a)    concepts, terms and definitions related to social responsibility; b)    the background, trends and characteristics of social responsibility; c)    principles and practices relating to social responsibility; d)    the core subjects and issues of social responsibility; e)    integrating, implementing and promoting socially responsible behaviour throughout the organization and, through its policies and practices, within its sphere of influence; f)     identifying and engaging with stakeholders; and g)    communicating commitments, performance and other information related to social responsibility.

PRD/SZNS 010:2011 Ambulatory Clinics- Requirements

This  standard  provides  the  basic  requirements  for  the  operation  of  ambulatory  clinic.  This standard is applicable to management and staff of health facilities as well as policy makers.

PRD/SZNS 026-1:2011 Electricity Supply- Quality of service

Part 1: Minimum standards 

This part of SZNS 026 outlines various service activities and the minimum standards for measuring the quality of service provided to customers by electricity utilities.

PRD/SZNS 027-2:2011 Electricity supply — Quality of supply

Part 2: Voltage characteristics, compatibility levels, limits and assessment methods. This   part   of   SZNS 027   specifies   the   voltage   characteristics,   compatibility   levels,   limits  and  assessment  methods  for  the  quality  of  electricity  supplied  by  Swaziland  licensees  to  end Customers.
